Jagoi,the traditional Folk Dance of Manipur.




Jagoi, the Manipuri dance is one of the most popular folk and classical dances of India. It is named  after the region of Manipur,  a state situated in North-East India. This dance form  has a great spiritual values of Hinduism and immensely influenced by Vaishnavism , a myth based on love between 'Radha' and 'Lord Krishna'. It is also popular as the divine  'Rasleela' of the God and the Goddess. Hence, this dance form is regarded as the  dance of Gods and Goddesses  on earth as well as in heaven.Simple traditional musical instruments  viz. Khol, Kartal, Fluet, Harmonium are used in  this folk dance.

Traditinal Dance of Saudi Arabia




The most common  popular and immensely popular  traditional dance of Arabia is called as "Ardah". It is also known as  Najdi or Saudi Ardha. This dance is performed with two rows of male dancers wearing traditional Saudi uniform and having a sword or cane or knife in their hands accompanied by drums and spoken poetry. This vibrant and Parade dance has become the  National Dance of Saudi Arabia for its immense popularity.

Scandinavian Folk Dances




The oldest traditional folk dance of Norway is known as "Bygdedans". These folk dances are generally performed by couples and named after the  regions, or villages of Norway and Sweden, the Scandinavian countries . These dance forms are also called Scandinavian Folk dances. The dances are very popular and performed in  all social occasions because they are very nostalgic, easy to learn and inherently  known by the Scandinavian people. There are mainly five varieties of "Bygdedans" namely Springar , Pols, Gangar, Halling and Rull.

Traditional Folk Dance of Australia



'Bush' dance is the  traditional dance of Australia. It is a combination of  English, Irish, Scottish and other European dances. Here the music is composed by the Australian Traditional Bush Band. Simple or self  made musical instruments and relaxed costumes of  dancers make this traditional folk dance more joyful.  It's a dance-cum-festival for all aged. 

Folk Dances of China



China has various types of popular folk dances around the country and each signifies different aspect.Some of them are related to celebrate harvest where some of them are ritual dances.Although there are many folk dances prevailing around China but the common themes that reflect through their traditional dances are the  feelings of happiness, anger, love , hate and worship. Among various types of folk dances the Dragon Dance which symbolizes  the power, the strength, and the Good Luck for all the people of China is regarded as the most popular traditional folk dance and folk activities of China.

Samba, the lively and rhythmical dance of Brazil



Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Afro-Brazilian origin. Beautiful female dancers wearing bikini dresses with colorful body paint, large feathers and traditional ornaments take part in this dance performance. It is displayed on a road shows at the time of carnivals or special festivals. It is Perhaps one of the most popular musical  dance styles in the world. Here dancing involves the amazing movement of whole body, so physical fitness takes an important part of this dance.

Bharatanatyam, the Tradition of South India




Bharatanatyam  the oldest classical dance of India is considered as the mother of many other Indian Classical Dances. It is  originated in Tamil Nadu, the Southern state of India and practiced mainly in the Shiva temples of Tamil Nadu and adjacent areas. The dancers are considered the God and Goddes in this Traditional Dance. It also depicts the various Mudras of Hindu God 'Shiva' also known as 'Nataraj'.  Bharatanatyam makes the body and  mind agile and divine. This typical South Indian dance style  has gained a remarkable identity all over India and in many other foreign countries.

Bihu,the Tradition of Assam.



Bihu is not only the most colorful folk dance but a joyous festival of Assam,the nostalgic North Eastern state of India .It takes place around the valley of Brahmaputra river, the life line of Assam with great joy to mark the end of harvesting seasons.It gives a divine feeling when youths wearing colorful and traditional dresses perform this beautiful rhythmic and vibrant dance style. The people of Assam celebrate three types of Bihu festival during the year namely Bohag Bihu or Rangoli Bihu in Spring season,Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu in Winter and Kongali Bihu or Kati Bihu in Autumn.

The Folk Dance of Dakshin Dinajpur



"Mokha" Dance is a very popular folk dance of  North Bengal, especially in Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur districts.In this Dance style the dancers wearing  musk display the ultimate power of the goddess "Chandi" and perform  a drama where eventually the ruins of evils by the goddess of power, the Chandi are displayed efficiently. In these districts another dance named "Halua & Haluani", a Dance-cum-Drama where the typical lifestyle of the poor farmer families  of this region also beautifully presented before the audiences.

Traditional Folk Dance of Purulia District



Purulia District of West Bengal has become very famous not only in India but also in many foreign countries because of its amazing folk dance called "Chhau". It is a combination of martial art and drama. Outstanding physical fitness is required to become a Chhou Dancer. This dance is performed wiring different types of musk depicting the characters of drama.The lightening movements of feet , head and every parts of the body with random forward and backward somersaults wearing big musk of the dancers amaze every spectator. This is played by a team of splendid dancers along with vocal experts and efficient musicians.This is a mythological dance and its main objective is to fight and defeat all the evil powers from the society and eventually establish a prosperous life for all.

Introduction



Folk Dances and Folk Festivals have  immense importance in  cultural and historical life of any community , region or country. These actually depicts the basics of a culture and belief that genetically flowed through the blood among the  inhabitants of a particular region from the inception
of cultural phenomenons of human civilization. 


Such dances and festivals are derived from the various aspects of human lives having a strong relation and belief  of existence of a supernatural power embedded in the  nature from its inception.

The main objective of such dance and festival is to appeal towards the  almighty wishing happiness for  all living beings and saving the lives from the curse of all evil powers.
